The Weight of Light

Installation view, Christian Valmont: The Weight of Light, Atelier Meridian, London, 2026
Atelier Meridian is proud to debut 'The Weight of Light', a major solo exhibition by Christian Valmont. Occupying the entirety of our London space, this presentation brings together the artist’s recent explorations across large-scale canvas, cast resin sculpture, and generative digital media. This marks Valmont’s first comprehensive exhibition with the gallery.
Conversations: Christian Valmont and Thomas Harrington

“Data is a material like clay or bronze. I don’t just want to display it on a screen. I want to give it weight. I want to see how digital memory casts a physical shadow.”
Christian Valmont, interview with Contemporary Art Review, 2026

Spatial Geometries, 2026
Oil, cast resin, raw pigment, and mixed media on canvas 80 × 65 inches (203.2 × 165.1 cm)
Bridging the gap between the virtual and the tangible, Valmont’s practice challenges our perception of permanence. His London studio functions as both a digital laboratory and a traditional foundry, allowing him to seamlessly merge code with physical matter
For Valmont, light is not merely a tool for illumination, but a structural element. By trapping generative digital sequences inside monolithic resin blocks, he forces a dialogue between the fleeting nature of technology and the heavy silence of sculpture.

Refracted Realities, 2026
Acrylic, glass fragments, and resin on panel 60 × 48 inches (152.4 × 121.9 cm)

Christian Valmont
Synthetic Landscapes, 2026
Pigment print, acrylic, and wax on aluminium 72 × 54 inches (182.9 × 137.2 cm)
In this series, the artist meticulously layers synthetic polymers with raw pigment to create a surface that actively distorts spatial perception. The resulting forms appear to shift depending on the viewer’s angle, challenging the fixed nature of traditional painting. By manipulating the refractive index of the materials, Valmont transforms the canvas into a dynamic architectural intervention, exploring the tension between opacity and luminescence.

Digital Echoes, 2026
Archival inkjet print and oil on linen
48 × 48 inches (121.9 × 121.9 cm)
“When you cast resin, you are essentially freezing a moment in time. It captures light not as a reflection, but as a physical weight suspended within the object.
Christian Valmont, Notes on The Monolith Series, 2024

The Monolith Series, 2026
Cast concrete, graphite, and pigment on board
84 × 60 inches (213.4 × 152.4 cm)

Christian Valmont
Suspended Moments, 2026
Plaster, steel wire, and oil on canvas
66 × 50 inches (167.6 × 127 cm)
Focusing on the concept of 'digital memory,' this piece investigates how intangible data can be assigned physical weight and presence. The intricate geometric patterns embedded within the resin block act as an analog representation of generative algorithms. It is a study in capturing time, where the fluidity of modern technology is frozen into a permanent, monumental statement within the gallery space.

Silent Matter, 2026
Charcoal, ash, and matte medium on canvas
70 × 55 inches (177.8 × 139.7 cm)
“The architecture of the gallery shouldn't just hold the work; it must actively participate in it. I want the viewer to feel the silence between the sculptures just as intensely as the materials themselves.”

Atelier Meridian is pleased to present The Weight of Light, a major solo exhibition by Christian Valmont. Occupying the entirety of our London space, this presentation brings together the artist’s recent explorations across large-scale canvas, cast resin sculpture, and generative digital media.
The exhibition will feature new work by the artist, exploring the tension between physical materiality and digital spaces. Valmont challenges conventional narratives through a distinct formal practice that moves fluidly from textural abstraction to architectural intervention. The Weight of Light marks Valmont’s first comprehensive solo exhibition with the gallery.
